ALARM: 7 OR MORE SHORT BLASTS FOLLOWED BY ONE LONG BLAST ON SHIP’S WHISTLE AND FOLLOWED BY ANNOUNCEMENT ON P. A. SYSTEM

IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:

  1. Duty Off. (OOW): Raise alarm, inform Master / Engine Room, Display NUC shapes or Light, Make required Sound Signal, Engage Manual or Emergency steering
  2. Master: Takes Con, stop the engine, if required. Warn other ships.
  3. Engine Room Team: Establish communication with bridge, manoeuvring speed
  4. Steering Flat Team: Establish communication with bridge, engage emergency steering, Follow orders from bridge
  5. Anchor Team: Establish communication with bridge, Prepare for anchoring (both Anchors)
  6. Lifeboat Team: Prepare to launch lifeboats. Standby for final instructions from Bridge

Note: 3rd Officer is designated GMDSS Communication Officer in emergency
