Sound general alarm
Stop any cargo operation – shut all cargo valves
Initiate medical assistance onboard and from shore if required
If import – advise terminal and notify local and national authorities
Fire pump in readiness
Stop air conditioning / ventilation
At night – switch on all deck lighting
Muster crew – conduct tally of personnel (Ensure that all staff carry the emergency escape sets)
Identify the chemicals involved and determine the degree of risk
Activate deck water sprays system
Flush contaminated area with large amounts of water
Prohibit all smoking
Transfer cargo and/or ballast as required
Advise engine room and emergency parties of situation
Inform TSM Office
If at sea – advise nearest coast state and alert vessels in vicinity
Commence notification to owners, charterers, P & I Club etc.
Refer to MSDS emergency procedure
If at sea – consider alteration of course, speed to carry vapour cloud away from ignition sources of accommodation
Preserve VDR / SVDR records if not automatically protected
