Notify Master
Report the details of the container to charterers and planner and Thome (container no./cell posn/port of load/port of discharge/attached photos of the situation/cargo/container contaminated)
Verify no leak is gone overboard. (refer to the EMS/MFAG/IMDG and MSDS as required)
Verify vessel’s position (Time, location and details of event, next port eta etc. if in port then state details to all)
Check for other vessels in the vicinity at sea. Check for navigational hazards in vicinity.
Broadcast SAFETY or URGENCY message, if appropriate if any DG cargo overboard.
Assess weather, sea conditions, currents and drift.
Forecasted weather/sea conditions.
Determine if ship’s crew capable to contain the leak
Verify containment Plan. Activate the SOPEP/EMS procedures.
Log entry made (Annex VI logbook, Deck logbook and Engine logbook, EGCS record book, etc.)
Notify flag state (if any incident / deviation from regulation / violation) occurred.
Prohibit all smoking.
Implement oil spill removal and verify containment.
Determine rate flow loss.
Coordinate shore-side response.
Document spill by photos or video.
At night – switch on deck lighting as required.
Identify the chemicals involved and determine the degree of risk. (do not handle them with hands and to use chemical suit as required - refer EMS/MSDS/IMDG).
Check if reefer container and malfunction & malref report raised.
Have the areas cleaned and keep the liquid and the cleaning material separate and ask the agents for disposal. (refer to the EMS/MFAG/IMDG and MSDS as required)
