1. APPLICATION

This document applies to all shipboard personnel.

2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to specify requirements for familiarization with emergency stop procedures and fuel oil quick closing valves.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Engineer shall:

4. EMERGENCY STOPS & FUEL OIL QUICK CLOSING VALVE

Chief Engineer and Engineer on Watch (EOW) shall perform and verify the following tasks:

Task Verification
The EOW shall check that:
  • Quick-closing valves operating system is capable of remotely closing all valves as designed
  • Emergency Stops are capable of remotely stopping the equipment, as designed

Chief Engineer shall verify that ALL QCV and Emergency Stops are marked and operation understood

The EOW shall check that following are available:
  • Technical manuals containing diagrams and information about the system components, spare parts, operation, maintenance and repairs
  • Maintenance Plan

Chief Engineer to confirm that same in order

The EOW shall ensure that all engine department personnel can
  • Identify the location of each quick closing valve and emergency stop
  • Method to operate locally and remotely in an emergency

Chief engineer shall complete and sign HSSEQ-05 Training record
He shall carry out training at least every quarter.
