1 APPLICATION
This document applies to Masters and Chief Officers on all fully managed tank vessels.
2 PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to specify pre-arrival exchange information and operational tests/checks.
3 RESPONSIBILITIES
- Master – Obtain voyage information and send relevant information to concerned parties
- Chief Officer – Carry out pre-arrival tests/checks
4 LOADING
4.1 Upon receipt of charterer’s voyage orders
- Acknowledge on the day of receipt.
- Confirm cargo intake and make a stowage plan
- Send preliminary stowage plan to vessel operators
- Complete required Terminals Questionnaires / checklist as applicable
- Send Notices to Agents/Shippers/Port/Terminals as per Charter Party/Charter voyage orders
- Check and advise bunkering requirements for the voyage to operators
Note:
- Voyage order may be accompanied with proposed stowage. Master shall thoroughly check the same and propose changes to Operator.
4.2 Check following for planning cargo intake:
- Bending moments
- Shear forces
- Racking stresses
- Heat transfer between cargoes
- Sloshing in slack tanks
- For safety of cargo (contamination due to last cargoes, co-mingling or heat transfer)
- Nominated tanks with recent compatible (last 3) cargo history
- For unleaded/clean petroleum products:
- - Consider product sensitivity precautions unless instructed.
- - Unless instructed, load unleaded products only in tanks with last 3 unleaded cargoes.
- - For vegetable/fish oils and molasses check suitability of tanks after previous cargoes to comply with FOSFA requirements and other applicable guidelines.
- Reserve one line for loading clean ballast for vessels not fitted with SBT (segregated ballast tanks)
- Nominate minimum tanks for dirty cargoes
COUTION:
5 DISCHARGING
5.1 Prior arrival discharge port
- For discharge port arrival ETA notices, follow:
- Charter party, voyage instructions from charterer
- Instructions from Company
- Check expected weather conditions (updates received from agents/terminal)
- Prepare cargo plan
6 SLOP DISPOSAL
For slop disposal:
- Check with loading and discharge ports agent if:
- Slop facilities are available
- Cost per ton of using the service
- Advise type and quantity of slops for disposal to agent
- Liaise closely with charterers and Vessel Manager.
Note:
- MARPOL requires all slops discharging to slop facilities ashore where these facilities are available.
- Attach copy of shore receipts of slops in the oil record book.
